Three common product-image corrections

Product-image edits are usually specific. A feature changed, an offer ended, or a service promise is out of date. The examples below are representative scenarios, not claims about particular customer listings.

Write down the exact old and new copy before opening an editor. That one step prevents a vague request such as “update the banner” from producing the wrong asset.

Check the claim before you touch the pixels

Compare the approved replacement with the current product page. Material, quantity, price, dimensions, and delivery language must agree with the listing. The image editor can change a sentence; it cannot decide whether that sentence is true.

Be especially careful around certifications, medical language, environmental claims, and marketplace-required disclosures. If the requested wording changes what the customer believes they are buying, get the claim approved before producing the image.

Worth noting: A visually perfect correction is still wrong when the product page says something different.

Fit the sentence to the product shot

The product should remain the strongest visual signal. If a replacement headline becomes twice as long, it may cover the item, collide with a badge, or shrink until it is unreadable on mobile. Shorten the approved copy or choose an intentional line break before generation.

Use the highest-resolution approved image you have. Marketplace thumbnails often contain compression around fine lettering. Editing that thumbnail may produce a clean-looking preview that falls apart when enlarged.

A good text edit limits changes to the product

After the new copy appears, stop reading for a moment and inspect the photograph. The editor is designed to limit changes outside the selected text area, but exact preservation is not guaranteed. Look for a bent package edge, softened logo, repeated fabric texture, shifted highlight, or missing object.

Then compare the live-size crop on desktop and mobile. A marketplace may trim the left and right edges or place controls over the lower corner. The words are only finished when they survive the publishing context.

  • Read the new claim against the product detail page.
  • Check logos, labels, seams, and product edges near the edit.
  • Preview the crop at the smallest size customers will see.
  • Keep the original file and one clearly named final export.

Hand off one final file

Near-duplicate exports cause old offers to return. Use a file name that identifies the product and correction, such as tote-organic-cotton-v2.png, and archive the replaced version instead of leaving both in the publishing folder.

If someone else publishes the image, include the exact destination and replacement note. “Use this on the blue tote listing; it replaces the lightweight-cotton image” is more useful than “final-final-new.png.”

FAQ

Can I change a price or claim in a product image?

You can replace the visible wording, but verify the new price, quantity, material, offer, or claim against the approved product page before publishing the image.

Will the product stay exactly the same after the edit?

Exact preservation is not guaranteed. Review logos, labels, packaging edges, texture, shadows, and other nearby details before using the result on a live listing.

When is a product-image text edit a good fit?

It is a good fit when one contained line is outdated and the product shot is otherwise usable. Return to the source design when several elements, the layout, or the product presentation must change.

Fix the listing without rebuilding the asset

Aim to update only the message that changed, then review the claim and the surrounding product details before the new file goes live.
